Here's our Gretchen, Sunshine Pants, Punky Pants...... She has several nicknames :) She is doing wonderfully well. She acts just like the other cats and even curls up with me on the couch every chance she gets.

Catching Up With Gretchen and Farrah

Gretchen has been making wonderful progress! She lets me hold her AND she is coming out of the room during the day now. When I get up in the morning to feed, she is sitting on the steps with all the other kitties and when we come home for lunch she is usually laying on the couch.Farrah and her new brother

Gretchen ventured out of the room and out into the hallway, but that's as far as she's gotten. All the kitties have been in her room to visit her and they have all behaved themselves quite well. Maya did have a hissy fit, but it was short-lived.

Hey Pretty Girl!

Gretchen sure is coming along! She is always laying on the bed and we've even been able to snuggle and nap with her. We are so happy with her progress. We'll soon take her to the vet for FIV/FeLV testing and start integrating her with the others. We know she misses having other feline friends. Remember, she was once in a feral colony with at least four other kitties and they were always together. Then her colony friends disappeared and that's why she's here.
Ziggy LOVES her and she LOVES him. Sometimes he sneaks in the room when I open the door and I have to catch him quickly. He's only touched noses with her for a second once or twice. There's never been a single hiss and they both purr for the few seconds they are together. Can't wait until he can visit her for longer than a few seconds. I think Ziggy will play a very important role in Gretchen's coming out of the bedroom.

Gretchen spends most of her day in her kitty cube on the bed in her room instead of constantly hiding under the bed. She is still learning what it is to be a spoiled kitty. She is making good, but slow progress. Sometimes she will play paws with the other kitties under the door. She still loves rubs and pets :)

Checking In with Gretchen

We're definitely making some good progress with Gretchen. She is coming out earlier, last night she came to eat at 8:17 which is still light out. When she sees us on the porch she starts running towards us and talks. She stays on the porch or stair platform for 1-2 hours with us after she eats and I can get as close as 3 steps away from her. She has started rolling around and being silly on the platform. I saw her play for the first time ever last night. She was whapping a little clay frog around on the steps. I threw her a little toy mouse and she ignored it, lol.She absolutely loves fried chicken and cat sip milk, what we call "chickie" and "mik mik." Of course, she also eats regular cat food as well. She looks and acts so much more relaxed than when she first came here.
For those of you who don't know....Gretchen was never an indoor cat, she is a feral cat we trapped and relocated to our property for her own safety. She may never become an indoor cat, we can't even touch her at this point. We are just hoping to someday soon be able to pick her up so we can put her in the garage or house during inclement weather. Being on the coast, tropical weather is a concern. I think we're definitely moving in the right direction.

It's a TNR weekend. We'll be trapping tonight for a clinic on Saturday. Hoping to get 15 cats.

Wordless Wednesday with Gretchen

And We're Back

Feels like we've been gone forever! Here's a little update on what we've been up to....
We have a new garden in the front yard for Gretchen, but she won't stay in it....We built a new "cat shack" on the front porch, but she won't sleep in it....But, Gretchen is making great progress and will now eat on the porch with us!!
We got new foster kittens! A very caring shelter volunteer pulled them from our shelter, had them spayed and arranged for them to be transported to a rescue in Maryland. They will be with us until Friday. They are so precious, but both have URI and bad tapeworms and ear mites. We've been fixing them all up since we got them last Friday. We've named the long-haired girl, Tutti Frutti and the short-haired girl we named Rudi.

Many of you have asked about Maizy and Ferris' weight loss secret. Well, they used to get 1/4 cup of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner.... we cut out lunch altogether and they now only get 1/4 cup of food for breakfast and 1/4 cup for dinner. They are eating Natural Balance Duck and Green Pea.

So here's some good news.....We've been able to lure Gretchen up to the top of the steps using fried chicken and grilled sea mullets. She will even eat some of her wet food in front of us. She stayed on the platform of the stairs for over an hour with us on the porch. She took a nap and was even flirting by rolling around. This is the closest we've been to her since relocating her to our yard from her feral colony. It's great progress! If only we could get her to stay. Next week is our vacation/staycation and we plan on working a lot more with her and hopefully find her day hiding spot. Every night she comes from the house across from us. It's for sale and no one lives there. Perhaps she lives under the deck. We don't have many hiding spots on our property. She must feel safe over there.

Checking In With Gretchen

Here are some pics from over the weekend. On Friday night, Gretchen came on the porch 3 times... at 9pm, 10pm, and 12am. Check out Ferris and Gretchen locking laser eyes in the window!! A couple of times when the servants walked out on the porch to look for her, she was at the foot of the stairs and didn't run away when they saw her! They stayed and talked to her for a while.
These three kitties will soon be homeless and must be adopted asap. They don't have to be adopted together, but desperately need to be saved. Click on the graphic and help if you can!

Here are some pics from the last few days. She is doing great and comes out of the woods earlier every night. She was at the top of the stairs at 8:45pm on Saturday night. The lady didn't know she was there and opened the door. When Gretchen saw her, she ran back into the yard, but didn't hide. Yay for progress!
