What' New Pussycat?

The lady and another cat project volunteer worked a craft sale on Saturday to raise funds for TNR. They had a great time, did a lot of outreach, sold lots of note cards and some art prints too! 100% of the proceeds went to the cat project. They raised around $240.00 to help spay/neuter the homeless cats in our town. The most popular note cards at the sale were the ones featuring Saylor.

Also, last Friday, 22 homeless cats were driven to Spay Today (about 1.5 hours away) and were spayed/neutered, vaccinated and ear-tipped. The lady didn't take this trip because she had to work, but she helped trap them and release them. 22 more cats who no longer have the ability to reproduce! Yay!

Gone, But Not Forgotten

Cal has been gone one year today. Seriously, where does the time go?
We miss him very much!

10th Photo Meme

We were tagged by Sparkle the Designer Cat and Isis and Denali and our friends at Talk with the Paws to do the 10th photo meme. The rules are to open your first photo folder and find the 10th photo in that folder and post it on your blog. We are using the 1st folder in our Picasa album. This photo was taken just 2 weeks ago and it features the feral colony kitties, Oliver, Necklace and DG eating out of the same bowl. You may have seen the video we posted of them on Movie Monday last week.

It's Getting Better

We are happy to report the stress and tension has greatly improved here on the creek. Maggie and Maizy are both on Amitriptyline. It has really helped! Hardly any hissing from Maggie and no chasing and biteys from Maizy for a few days now. Maggie May goes for a recheck at the vet tomorrow. Her leg looks great and the abscess has completely healed. Now just waiting for her fur to grow back.The calming collars are still on the others and Chevelle gets her ears rubbed with flower essences. They seem to really be working, just look at this picture! Chevelle and Ferris have never ever laid within 5 feet of one another and they shared Dixie Dog's bed the other night!

Happy Gotcha Day, Ram!

Today is my 2nd Gotcha Day!

The pictures above are from my first week after being trapped and neutered two years ago. The servants built me an enclosure down in the garage after they received my positive FIV results and also so I could become acclimated to being indoors. After spending about a month in the enclosure, they moved me upstairs to my own suite in the house. That's right, I don't have to share my food and toys with anyone! It took me some time and a lot of feliway and rescue remedy to start enjoying being an indoor only kitty. Now I love it and would never want to go back outside again!
Here I am enjoying sun puddles on my belly while laying on my very own bed! Life is good!

Movie Monday

Our lady made this movie over the weekend. It stars 3 kitties who live in a managed feral colony. They are the only 3 kitties remaining in a colony at a former recreational fishing hot spot. The fishing spot is now closed to the public, but the lady has special permission to monitor and feed the cats. They were used to getting lots of fish from the fishermen, but now they have to settle for dry food. Doesn't look like they mind much though. What's funny is there are 2 other bowls, but they insist on eating out of the same one! Too cute!

Many of you have heard about the horrible news happening in NJ where Tuck lives. When the lady heard this disturbing news, she decided to write a letter in support of TNR and opposing the feral cat hunting. She hopes the NJ Fish and Game Council gets a freakin' flood of letters! Just look at the kitties in the video above, can you imagine them with a bullseye on their heads? The feral cat hunting plan is despicable and we hope and pray it doesn't come to pass.

Flannigan's Ball - St. Patrick's Day Contest Entry

This is what we came up with for the St. Patrick's Day contest hosted by Brian and Lynx217. We're not sure if this falls under the catergory of "green apparel" or "use of green." Since Maggie May has had a rough week, we let her model and show her St. Patrick's Day spirit!

Relax

We all have our pheromone collars and flower essences and Maizy is on her anti-psychotics.....we mean, anti-anxiety meds. We are all tolerating the collars pretty well. It seems to be more of a problem for Maggie May than anyone, but we're sure she'll get used to it soon. And if not, off it will go. The vet said we could give Maggie the anti-anxiety meds too, if needed.

We have some BIG news....... Maizy and Maggie May touched noses.....and didn't hiss......didn't growl.....and no biteys!! Maggie did raise her paw at Maizy slightly, but then walked off. We think that is some major progress! But still, only supervised interactions and only for a few minutes at a time. We don't want to over do it or anything.

Everybody Wants To Rule The World

Since it's going to take about a week for the flower essences to arrive, I decided to try out another product in the meantime. After quite a bit of online research, I found a product that's available at our local PetSmart. Our PetSmart also carries feliway, but the problem with diffusers is the openness of our great room. The ceiling is nearly 30 feet high, so we'd need a lot of those suckers to make any sort of a difference. I do believe in the use of pheromones to help relieve stress, so that's why I gave these pheromone collars a shot. We planned on buying one for each of the three girls, but the store only had two. The two lucky girls are Maizy and Chevelle. And I was totally shocked that they didn't freak out, considering they've never worn collars before. The price was not too bad, $15.00 each, they are supposed to last 30 days and they have a pleasant lavender scent.

As far as efficacy, I'd say they have helped with some of the aggression in both Maizy and Chevelle. Maggie May still hisses and growls anytime she sees them, but they don't seem to want to attack her. When PetSmart gets a new shipment in, we plan on getting one for Maggie May to see if it calms her down. We'll keep everyone posted! It's nice to hear from others who are having the same issues in their home, makes us know we aren't alone in this.

Everybody's Workin' For The Weekend

Just a few things to report:Sebastian and Reilly are doing wonderfully in their new home. Reilly has completely come out of his shell and is quite the mama's boy. Sebastian is more of a man's man and cries when his new daddy leaves the room. They both seem to really love the dog, Roadside, and even share the couch with him. Love it!
The tension really hasn't gotten any better here on the creek. We thought when the boys were adopted, things would get better. However, the boys never were the problem. It the 3 girls, Maggie, Maizy and Chevelle. Tonight Maizy attacked Maggie. Thanks to a friend's advice, I ordered some new flower essences. I want to try natural before getting meds from the vet. We pray this will work and harmony will be restored again.

Take Back

We hope ya'll had a great weekend. We took back our pink room aka the foster room after Sebastian and Reilly were adopted. Although, we heard the lady say something about taking it from us and making it into the guest room/art supply room again. We'll see about that one!
