Hey Pretty Girl!

Gretchen sure is coming along! She is always laying on the bed and we've even been able to snuggle and nap with her. We are so happy with her progress. We'll soon take her to the vet for FIV/FeLV testing and start integrating her with the others. We know she misses having other feline friends. Remember, she was once in a feral colony with at least four other kitties and they were always together. Then her colony friends disappeared and that's why she's here.
Ziggy LOVES her and she LOVES him. Sometimes he sneaks in the room when I open the door and I have to catch him quickly. He's only touched noses with her for a second once or twice. There's never been a single hiss and they both purr for the few seconds they are together. Can't wait until he can visit her for longer than a few seconds. I think Ziggy will play a very important role in Gretchen's coming out of the bedroom.

Farrah The Cute!

Farrah is still here. Her URI is getting better, but she still isn't well enough to travel the long distance to New Jersey. She could be with us until next weekend or until November 13th. Whatever time we get with her, we will cherish it. I am so excited because Farrah already has a forever home to go to. I've even been in contact with her new mom. She is wonderful and she has another kitty and a yellow lab who loves cats!

Monday, Monday

The Spooktacular Fall Feline Festival was a great success. The amount we raised will fund enough spay and neuter to prevent 250 births! I believe our total was around $2000.00. So awesome! I had to leave the sale for a little bit to take Maggie May to the vet for a possible scratch on her eye that tuned out to be a painful corneal ulcer. She has a recheck today or tomorrow.
Farrah the kitten is doing well, she has a little URI, but it doesn't seem to be getting worse. She will leave us tonight to go to the foster who will be transporting her up north. We are gonna miss that sweet baby.

Happy National Feral Cat Day!

Happy National Feral Cat Day, Everyone!! Today I will be celebrating NFCD with my TNR group by holding a Spooktacular Fall Feline Festival. We'll be selling shrimp burgers, funnel cakes, spiral fries (with Bojangles seasoning) and of course, sweet tea! In addition to the yummy food, we're also having a tag sale and all proceeds from this fundraiser will be going to spay/neuter the feral/stray/free-roaming cats in our community. So far this year, we've TNR'd 165 cats, 443 since our inception in 2006.

Farrah the Foster Kitten

Farrah is our newest foster kitten. She will be with us until she leaves for her New Jersey rescue in about a week. Farrah is about 6-7 weeks old, all black with some random white furs on her legs. She is a doll and sweet as sugar!

Sweetie left us for Persian Rescue on Saturday. We were both so upset to see her go, but we know she is in wonderful hands. In fact, here is the email update we got on Saturday night....

“The eagle has landed” approx 2 1/2 hours ago. Sweetie settled in without as much as blinking, I am really amazed. I have her in a room with my oldest girl and a shy 3-year-old, and there was no hiss, no nothing: she marched around, used the box, eat some, drank some, then curled up on one of the leather armchairs, as if she had decided, “okay guys, I am home now, let’s just all get along here, and I’ll be a good girl.”

P.S. The antibiotics seem to be doing the trick for Ziggy's infection! The lump is still there, but it may be going down in size and no more fever! Yay!

Ziggy Update

Ziggy had to go back to the vet yesterday. On Saturday, he developed some subcutaneous fluid on his belly region. By Sunday morning the area grew and I found a grape-sized lump in his groin and his fever was 104. The lump may be what was causing the limp. So the vet aspirated (OUCH) the lump and found some white cells and some bacteria. He'd actually never seen anything like this before, but believes it could be something quite rare like L-form infection, nocardia or a fungal infection that began in his knee joint. Where Ziggy contracted this infection is a huge mystery. The vet administered a convenia (long-lasting antibiotic injection) and also 2 weeks of doxycycline. If there is no improvement in 3-4 days, a biopsy will be necessary. We need everyone to think good thoughts for Ziggy to improve on the antibiotics.

LIVESTRONG DAY

Our Cal was helped to the bridge on March 26, 2009. He was a warrior till the end as he battled intestinal lymphoma. We miss him so much everyday and would give anything to have him back. He suffers no longer at the Bridge. This was the last footage we had of Cal. If you are unable to view the video, you can see it here.

Quick Update - Updated

Happy Friday, everyone! Just a quick update......

**Ziggy's x-ray revealed no fractures or breaks. Vet suspects possible soft tissue damage and gave him an anti-inflammatory injection!**

Well, it's been raining since about Saturday night here and this place is a wet mess, but we're ok. Thanks to all who have asked about us :) Although, our roof has sprung a few leaks. Grrr! One of my greatest fears is water in places it shouldn't be, like floods and leaks. So, it's no fun for me to have to walk in my master bath or laundry room with the water stains on the ceiling. I know..... I'm weird, lol.

Sweetie is supposed to leave on transport today for Persian Rescue in VA. I can't even imagine the sadness our hearts will feel when we have to hand her over to her transporter. Not looking forward to that. **UPDATE** Just got word that Sweetie won't be leaving until NEXT weekend.Yesterday, Ziggy started limping on his right rear leg. He won't let me touch it and cries when I pick him up to examine it. God help me, his symptoms are so much like what Maggie May displayed when she was having her patellar luxation issues before the surgeries. I have started him on supplements, but will take him into the vet today if I need to. **UPDATE** Dropping Ziggy off to the vet this morning for evaluation.Lastly, I want to share a LINK with everyone. These dogs disappeared about 10 miles from where we are and they were loved dearly. They may have been taken out of the county or even the state.
