Ziggy had to go back to the vet yesterday. On Saturday, he developed some subcutaneous fluid on his belly region. By Sunday morning the area grew and I found a grape-sized lump in his groin and his fever was 104. The lump may be what was causing the limp. So the vet aspirated (OUCH) the lump and found some white cells and some bacteria. He'd actually never seen anything like this before, but believes it could be something quite rare like L-form infection, nocardia or a fungal infection that began in his knee joint. Where Ziggy contracted this infection is a huge mystery. The vet administered a convenia (long-lasting antibiotic injection) and also 2 weeks of doxycycline. If there is no improvement in 3-4 days, a biopsy will be necessary. We need everyone to think good thoughts for Ziggy to improve on the antibiotics.

Ziggy we are so very sorry you are feeling less than purrfect. There are some very rare bacteria out there.
My G-ma (she is 82)(Mom's Mom) contracted something very very rare too. It is called mycobacterium chelonae....we don't know HOW in the world she got it. It is a rare bacteria found either in dirt or in folks with TB neither of which she been in contact with. It presented itself in her index finger joint by swelling up. She is on a very high powered antibiotic for at least a year and maybe more.!!!
Take care sweetie.
