A Week of Firsts

Last week was a week of firsts here at our house. It was the first time Ziggy discovered he had a super long tail. He also discovered the loft railing for the first time. Ziggy and Saylor

This was all well and good until he discovered (and tried to catch) his tail while on the loft railing. That was way too scary to photograph and I got him down as soon as possible. As far as I know, he hasn't been back up since.
It was also the very first time I have ever seen Maggie May make muffins. Yes, she is nearly 3 years old, and I have never seen her make two-handed muffins. Every now and then, she will knead a little with one paw. So it was an awesome surprise to wake up the other morning to her making muffins on my tummy. Thing is, I haven't witnessed her doing it since. Could it only be a one time deal? I hope not.

Spay Day 2011

10 females and 5 males were spayed/neutered and vaccinated at our Spay Day 2011 clinic on Saturday. That is 15 less free-roamers out there making babies. Glad we were able to beat the heat and prevent the suffering of more kittens. 15 down......many more to go! So our total so far this year is 22 cats TNR'd. Last year we did a total of 184!

I post-op'd 4 of those kitties in the pink room. They were a momma and 3 of her 7 kittens. I will be going back into that colony next month to hopefully finish it up. I am so happy they have a really wonderful caretaker who really loves them. This one reminded me of Maggie May, so I named her "Tootlebug."Sweet TeaMomma kitty....I named her "Chanel."I named this sweet little boy "Spicoli" for Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Redford Update

Redford came out of his surgery just find and passed his combo test with flying colors!! YAY!!!!

Tonight is trapping night for our spay/neuter clinic tomorrow. We're hoping for 15. Wish us luck!

Redford

This is our newest shelter foster, Redford. Named after Robert Redford, of course! According to his shelter intake card, he was trapped and brought in on Jan 13 and they estimated his age to be 8 years old. He doesn't look that old to me. I'd say 3-5. He is unneutered, but thankfully his urine isn't as potent as Whiskers' was. That was nearly unbearable and permeated throughout the entire house. His neuter and combo test appointment is Thursday. Please pray that he makes it though the surgery fine and tests negative for FIV/FeLV.

Redford will be staying with us until February 26 and then will be transported to a rescue up north.

Game Day!

Tonight my favorite team, Duke, is playing the hubby's favorite team, UNC. Saylor is a HUGE Duke fan herself and watches every game like this......Makes it a little difficult to see the score sometimes :) Go Blue Devils!!

Fundraiser Update

We were finally able to have our "Cattails" fundraiser on Saturday night. We had around 70 guests and 32 silent auction items. We raised around $1500.00, which is wonderful!! We are so thankful to those friends who donated items to our silent auction....BeadedTail, Casbah Kitten, Nip and Bones, Jake and Micah, Housecat Confidential, The Snippets, Meow Foundation, That's My Cat, just to name a few. $1500.00 will go a long way in our efforts to spay/neuter the free-roaming cats of our community. 560 cats and counting.......

Duncan Has a New Home!

Guess what..... "Duncan Don't Live Here" lives 3 houses down now! So, Duncan wasn't around at all yesterday. I thought, "he must have gone back home!" Well, not exactly, but he now has a forever home! Our neighbors called saying he had been at their house all day, just hanging out and playing with their small sons. When they called me (my number was on his tag) they were so excited when I told them he seemed to be homeless and needs a good home. They said they were already in love with him and wanted to keep him! I couldn't have gotten better news. It's a great family who recently lost their old black lab to cancer and they felt like God had sent Duncan to them. Now, he sleeps on their porch and also has access to the bottom floor of their house (garage/office space).....for now. Something tells me he'll be sleeping with the boys before too long! Tomorrow I will go over and treat him for fleas and bring over his bed and some cat milk. So happy for Duncan and his new forever family!!!!
