Hey Ya'll!

Hello everyone! Been a long time, but we just wanted to check in and let you all know we are all doing very well! As of last week, we've all had our yearly vet visits and all checked out well. Maya has lost some weight, so we are trying to fatten him up a bit. Dixie Dog's eyes are getting worse by the day, but we're trying out some Ocluvet eye drops to see if they will help her see any better. So far, no improvement, but we're hopeful. We're all getting ready for Halloween. Halloween always reminds us of Cal. That was his birthday.

Hurricane Irene Video

Our power was restored Sunday night around 11:00pm after being off since late Friday night.

We were so lucky! Here's a quick video I put together of the hurricane. Of course, it doesn't show the massive wind we were experiencing around 3:00am Saturday morning. It was too dark to film and I was pretty much cowering in the hallway feeling the house rock and listening to the ceiling make creaking noises. Seriously thought we were going to lose it. The kitties were taking shelter under the stairwell where it was safest.

Landfall occured at Cape Lookout which is literally a 10 minute boat ride from our home. Highest gusts were clocked there at 115mph. Storm surge was worse further east where most of my family lives. Most everyone who flooded during Hurricane Isabel, flooded with Irene. Irene hung around here for nearly 24 hours and we were so happy to see her go, but prayed for those still in her path. My family down east way still don't have power. It could be Thursday or Friday before they get it back on. Thanks again for all the prayers and concern!

We're Safe!

Quick update from my Blackberry.... we are all ok!  Irene made landfall about 5 miles east of us near Cpe Lookout. Power is still out, but we have the generator. heard it might be Wednesday before it's restored, but hopefully sooner.  Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers for us and ours wll continue for those in the New England area.

Necklace/Gretchen Update

Yesterday I did a post about Gretchen's hurt paw, but I accidentally called her Necklace. Necklace was her name when she was in her feral colony. I've been in such a tizzy with this storm, I don't know where my head is! Anyhoo, Gretchen's vet appointment went very well. The vet said she does indeed have a nailbed infection. She was given Convenia (antibiotic) and Vetalog (anti-inflammatory) injections. She should be good as new in a few days! Yay!

Still watching Irene and it looks like we may take a direct hit, but hopefully at a cat 2. I think we'll be pretty safe here in our home. It's on land that is 6ft above sea level and our house is on pilings, 10 feet off the ground. However, there is still a little time left to decide for sure if we're staying put. If we go, all the furries will be going with us for sure! We're praying for all of our friends in the path of this dangerous storm!

Necklace's Hurt Paw Paw

This afternoon we will be taking Necklace in to have the vet check out her infected dewclaw. Not sure how or what happened, but we noticed it was swollen and infected. Possibly a nailbed infection? Not sure. A month or so ago, I trimmed the nail because it seemed to be growing into her pad, but looked fine otherwise. Didn't think anything of it and yesterday we noticed it was swollen. Hopefully it won't be nothing some antibiotics can't fix!

Still got our eye to the sky watching Hurricane Irene.....sure wish I knew where she was going! We're still in the "cone of uncertainty."

Watching Irene

Hi friends....been a while! Just wanted to check in and say we have all eyes on Hurricane Irene. As of right now (2pm advisory) Irene is predicted to become a major hurricane with winds higher than 111mph and may make landfall Saturday somewhere over Eastern NC which includes our little house on the creek as indicated by the starfish. Preparations have already begun at our house to assure we are ready for whatever Irene brings. Hopefully, a whole lotta nothing! I'll do my best to keep everyone posted!

UDATE: And I just felt my first earthquake....CRAZY!!!!

Major Slacker!

Hi everyone! Wow, have I been slackin' or what?! So sorry we've been M.I.A for so long. There has been an awful lot going on here and I sorta checked out for a bit. I'm afraid posting will still be sporadic for a while, but just wanted to check in and say HI! All the kitties and Dixie Dog are doing very well. Maggie May just had her yearly exam yesterday and she checked out wonderfully!

I've had to back off of a few things to keep my sanity-- fostering, the TNR group and blogging. Hopefully, I will get back into the swing of things soon. In the mean time, I'll leave you will a little bit o' Saylor! Enjoy :)

Spay/Neuter Clinic Update

Just a quick update about the TNR clinic last weekend.....

57 free-roaming cats were spayed or neutered, vaccinated and ear-tipped!

This is Speckles. She was one of the 31 females who were spayed. There were 26 males neutered.
This is the NC State mobile unit where the surgeries were performed.
This is the beautiful view we enjoyed as we washed traps and carriers, monitored cats, etc. We were blessed with gorgeous weather both days. Thank goodness!

Happy Birthday, Maya and Chevelle!

Today is Maya and Chevelle's birthday! Hard to believe these two bottle-fed babies are 11 years old today!

Happy Weekend!

In honor of NC's Week for the Animals, the TNR group is having a HUGE spay/neuter clinic at a place called CMAST. I do believe Madi's Mom is familiar with this location. The NC State vet school mobile unit is coming to town to spay/neuter ~50 cats in two days. Trapping starts tonight and the clinic begins at 7am in the morning. We will be trapping again tomorrow night and will be back at it at 7am Sunday morning. Gonna be a busy weekend! Wish us luck!

Last weekend I furminated the kitties on the front porch. A couple of them were lucky enough to get to walk around the yard (some with a harness). Here are the pics from our fun day :)

We Won!

So excited to announce we won a 6 months supply of CANIDAE dog food! A few months ago we started following Responsible Pet Owner and also subscribed via email. We were so excited when we got the email last week saying we were chosen at random as the winner! Be sure to subscribe to the blog via email and you might be the chosen winner next!
We had the choice between CANIDAE dog food or FELIDAE cat food and we chose the dog food for Dixie Dog. The kitties have gotten several cool opportunites to review toys and food, so we wanted to let Dixie shine a little bit.

They're On Their Way

The Cheddar Bos have cooled down. No more fevers! Both litters of kittens left for NJ at 3:30am this morning. Safe travels, sweethearts! You are all going to have wonderful lives! ♥

Cheddar Bo Update

6:30AM HAPPY UPDATE: They met me at the door this morning for the first time since the weekend. Their temperatures now range from normal to 103.7! Woo Hoo! Keep those cooling purrs coming!! Thanks so much! Well, we have a little improvement..... their fevers range from 103.4-104.6, no 105s. It's a slight improvement, but I'll take it :)

Every few hours I dab their pads with rubbing alcohol and mist down their bedding with cool water per the vets recommendations. That's basically all that can be done. They are on antibiotics and hopefully they are begining to take effect.

They have an awesome opportunity to travel non-stop to their rescue in NJ on Friday. This means no changing vehicles. The driver is a local volunteer. However, if they are still sick, they will miss this trip. The Flower girls will be able to go, so that is good.

Need lots and lots of prayers and cooling purrs so they can make this trip on Friday!!

The Flower Girls - URGENT PURRS NEEDED

UPDATE 3:05PM: The Cheddar Bos all had 104-105 fevers, so they are fighting some kind of infection. The vet has given them fluids and antibiotic injections. They are showing no signs of URIs so I had no clue they have infections. This came on so suddenly. I'm just thankful the vet was able to see them today and hopefully they will all come through just fine. Thanks so much for the prayers!! UPDATE 8:41AM: The Cheddar Bos were dropped off to the vet this morning because a few of them were having trouble walking and one of them was shivering. I have no clue what could be wrong with them and I'm so very worried. Please pray hard for them to be ok!!!!!

This photo cracks me up! Poppy does an awful lot of crying. I'm not sure why. Maybe she just wants attention? They go to the vet on Monday, at which time I will tell her Poppy cries a lot and is thinner than the other two. They all seem to be very healthy and eat very well! So that is great!

I got a call about these girls on Friday. They had to get out of the shelter asap or they would be put down. Luckily, the rescue who is taking the Cheddar Bos is going to take these girls too! They may go on transport on Friday! Paws crossed!

The Cheddar Bo Kittens

Meet the Cheddar Bo kittens. I named them the Cheddar Bo kittens after the Bojangles Cheddar Bo biscuit. YUM! There are 5 of them and they are about 8 weeks old. They all look so much a like, it's so hard to tell them apart. I also cannot determine genders yet. When I do, I plan on naming them after cheeses. They will be with me until Saturday. Then they will be going to the same NJ rescue as Redford and the Pasta Kittens






Here is the other litter (gray tabbies) that was also rescued from the shelter. I had them at my house for a few hours until their new foster mom came to get them. So crazy how all five kittens in both litters looked identical. There was no variety at all!Great news! Linguine of the Pasta Kittens was adopted the day after she arrived in NJ!
