Since it's going to take about a week for the flower essences to arrive, I decided to try out another product in the meantime. After quite a bit of online research, I found a product that's available at our local PetSmart.

Our PetSmart also carries feliway, but the problem with diffusers is the openness of our great room. The ceiling is nearly 30 feet high, so we'd need a lot of those suckers to make any sort of a difference. I do believe in the use of pheromones to help relieve stress, so that's why I gave these pheromone collars a shot. We planned on buying one for each of the three girls, but the store only had two. The two lucky girls are Maizy and Chevelle.

And I was totally shocked that they didn't freak out, considering they've never worn collars before. The price was not too bad, $15.00 each, they are supposed to last 30 days and they have a pleasant lavender scent.
As far as efficacy, I'd say they have helped with some of the aggression in both Maizy and Chevelle. Maggie May still hisses and growls anytime she sees them, but they don't seem to want to attack her. When PetSmart gets a new shipment in, we plan on getting one for Maggie May to see if it calms her down. We'll keep everyone posted! It's nice to hear from others who are having the same issues in their home, makes us know we aren't alone in this.
Here is a
great deal on the calming collars! Thanks for the tip, Barb!! We just bought 4 more for the price we paid for 2 at PetSmart!
Be sure to check out the Creek Cats on
Wendy's LOL Spot! It's pawsome!!

We are glad to hear that the collars seem to work. It sounds like a step in the right direction.
Purrs!
That's wonderful :). We are glad that the collars are working. Hopefully it will work for Maggie May too. Please keep us posted :).
That's great that the collars are helping. But you know, I wouldn't mind wearing a collar scented like lavender!! I hope the girls continue to mellow.
Those collars sounds great. Mom said she thinks Milo wud benefit from one sumtimes!
I can't wait to hear if the collars work but I don't think I can put collars on these girls because they go outside and I would be afraid they would get caught on something. But like you, I am tired of all of them not getting along. They all pick on one cat. Hope it works for you and the cats. Have a super week.
Pretty picture anyway :)
I hope they work well! We are out of our Feliway and our mom has not gotten any more. We were also thinking of trying these herbal calming collars at calmingcollarsDOTcom.
Hmm, I wonder if that would be of any help to Annie. Is it a break-away collar? I'll have to check it out next time I'm at our PetSmart. I hope it works for you.
We hope the new calming collars work for you.
Paws crossed that the collars take some of the edge off!
We found these at Amazon.com for only $6.42 ea, plus $5.11 shipping! Mom just ordered us some!

Mom Barb here. I ordered 4 collars. With tax and shipping the order total was $32.95. I love cheaper, don't you?
Thanks for letting me know they are the break-away kind!
Those look like neat collars! If they work for calmness, I will want to try one for Samson. He gets so nervous sometimes and I really want to avoid trying the anti-depressants my vet has suggested.
YAY!!! You found something where there is a will there is a way!!!Good for you. We look forward to hearing more good news on the calming collars.
Madi and Mom
We're happy to hear about the collars an dhope they work. The Mommy may get a couple too, because we have some issues around here that Feliway stuff doesn't seem to help (we have big-open-room problems too). Thanks to you for posting about them, and to the G's mom for the deal (The Mommy loves Amazon!).
Purrs and hugs,
The Kitty Krew
That sounds good, lavender seems to be a magical ingredient.
Good info on the collars. We saw you over at Wendy's place, y'all were way too funny!
Hmm it looks cool!I think I will try this collar as well, good hint!
By the way, mommy bought a spray named "Magic Mint". In fact it doesn't work, for anything, really!I didn't notice it, neither liked it.
Do you know this kind of magic mint?
Maybe mommy does not know how to use it properly.
Anyway...this collar looks fabulous, much better than the spray!
Have a nice week dear friends,
purrs

Can't wait to hear more about how these collars work. I've seen them in the store, but have not tried them. My boys don't wear collars, so I don't know how they would react...I hope it works out for you!
Well, that's very interesting. Mom says she never heard of these. Keeping our paws crossed they work!!!
Hope they work and calm things down. I am glad they don't mind wearing them after not having worn collars before.
I may have to try one on Kirby!
Hurray! We're glad the collars seem to be helping. We always prefer the use of aroma therapy over chemicals.
Some cats don't like scents of any kind so know your cat before getting all of them!
We've never heard of calming collars, either! They sound like a great idea!
What a good idea. I have never heard of calming collars before.
Iris
Glad the collars are working for you...I used the Feliway diffusers when I brought Sukki home, but have never heard of the collar=good to know...xo...Calle, Halle, Sukki
Glad to hear the collars are working. I think Cricket needs some kittie Valium. She runs around attacking everyone like a freaky crackhead! LMAO...she's just a SUPER playful kittie.
Hey these sound good - very useful. Let us know how they go !!!!
Dana thanks for telling me about the link to get some of those collars and that they are break free. I think I will wait and see how they work til I buy some. Listen I just went and looked at the picture of your guys on Wendy's site and that one of Skylor in the sink is hysterical. I think you should paint that. I hadn't seen that picture before. Thanks again.
We're happy to hear the collars seem to be working. And once you get one for Maggie Mae, we hope they will totally be working.....happy Monday dear friends. Oh, BTW, we just LOVED the picture of young Saylor in the sink over at Wendy's. xxxxxxxxx
I hope it works out. Its hard to watch our friends have the fightie!
We'll be waiting to sees how they works, I tend to gets rambuncshus right after my insulin, so maybe we can try this too.

Oh! We're so glad you found something! Crossing paws that this resolves things and brings peace to the clan!
OXO
That's good news. Keep us posted when they all come in. I'm thinking of three of nine cats that could use some calming at our house...but then what would I blog about on Fridays? :)

Yes, Whimpurr will be very interested in hearing how effective they are!
We hope those collars work :) It is great to learn about them too!!!
Thanks for the info :)

Mom's going to go look at those collars. We're glad you found a good deal and that they seem to be working.

Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
Hmm, maybe mommy should try dem collars on Zippy and Sadie...der haf been no real fights fur almost two years but da hissy fits is still around.
We don't wear collars either! We do have the felly-way diffuser, though:)
Glad that seems to be working! I tried feliway when Tiger was spraying and it was a flop -- those diffusers are very expensive, too.
You can use Buspar to calm cats -- we used it on Monger in his last months. He had feline dementia (like alzhiemers in cats) and he would wander and caterwaul aimlessly. It really did help him.
I did a lot of research and there is nothing to suggest that buspar causes any side effect, but I swear it caused urinary problems in Tiger. The vet says no, but I still think so. I have Tiger on special food for cats prone to UT problems, but discontinuing the buspar on him seemed to do the trick.
I'm interested to hear how those work long-term.
Does that smell interfere with cat activities like sniffing butts?
That is great news! I have never heard of those collars. I wish I had known about them when I first brought Moo in from outside... Poor Pimp had to deal with him for months until he fully calmed down.
Good luck!!
Wow, what a great idea! Never heard of them!
It's great that the collars seem to be working! What a wonderful idea!
wow, really an animal lover.. By the way i got2 cats two. and they're very cute.. they love to stay at my bed room everytime.. they're my best friends!
Thats too bad about the Feliway and such high ceilings. We got low ones an it helps lots...
Good to know on the collars, I have not thought about them before. Let us know how it goes. The house is pretty balanced nowadays, but Cosmo went to the vet before we went on vacation for a week, and she was super grumpy with the pet sitter and all the other cats when we returned. A collar might have helped her return to balance faster.
That is a good idea. We hope they work well.
Great news to hear that the collars works. We tried this calm collar with Luzie and she became allergic against it. She got a bad cough.
It has nealy the same price here in Germany.
Good luck with your collars.
hm, so what kind of flower essence did your mommeh order for you? my mommeh got me some Bach's Rescue Remedy, but i did not feel a thing and she says it did not work. i do not know what she wanted it to do though. it tasted like a grownup drink.
You guys sure are having some troubles. We hope the calming collars work. MOL, we may need one for CocoBean!

Back when I was a kitten Mom and Dad got a free CD for cats from Kitten Chow. When they'd be gone all day they would let the CD play and I'd just be chilling out when they got home. Maybe you could review some cat music?

Hi
What beautiful kitty names: Maizy and Chevelle and what a lovely blog!
Glad that the collars work and that these lucky kitties are loving them!
Take care
x
p.s. Thank you for your purrs for my tough ol girl!
xx
We always wondered about those collars - well, as long as they have been around at least. Our cats fight like crazy sometimes, so we have considered getting them (althogh they don't wear collars either so I don't know if they would put up with it).
I highly recommend Rescue Remedy. They have it for pets (and for people, too)!
It's really great that the collars worked. The Humans bought Feliway for us because they have been doing some remodelling at our flat and Cliff was a bit stressed. It seems to have worked :-)
