We're definitely making some good progress with Gretchen. She is coming out earlier, last night she came to eat at 8:17 which is still light out. When she sees us on the porch she starts running towards us and talks.

She stays on the porch or stair platform for 1-2 hours with us after she eats and I can get as close as 3 steps away from her. She has started rolling around and being silly on the platform. I saw her play for the first time ever last night. She was whapping a little clay frog around on the steps. I threw her a little toy mouse and she ignored it, lol.

She absolutely loves fried chicken and cat sip milk, what we call "
chickie" and "
mik mik." Of course, she also eats regular cat food as well. She looks and acts so much more relaxed than when she first came here.

For those of you who don't know....Gretchen was never an indoor cat,
she is a feral cat we trapped and relocated to our property for her own safety. She may never become an indoor cat, we can't even touch her at this point. We are just hoping to someday soon be able to pick her up so we can put her in the garage or house during inclement weather. Being on the coast, tropical weather is a concern. I think we're definitely moving in the right direction.
It's a TNR weekend. We'll be trapping tonight for a clinic on Saturday. Hoping to get 15 cats.
Happy weekend, everyone!

We are so excited!!!!!!!!!! Gretchen has taken great strides towards trusting y'all. We will continue to purr that she will soon not be a feral cat any longer.
We love y'all for what you are doing for her and all the other ferals in your area. xxxxxxxxxxxxx
It makes our heart so happy to see Gretchen getting more and more comfortable with you! She is so beautiful and she is making such great progress! We also wish you much success on the TNR this weekend!
Oh yeah! Rolling certainly means she is happier if she does that for you all!
Sounds like Gretchen is warming up to you more every day! She's a lucky kitty to have you! Good luck this weekend!
Oh my we are so excited to hear that Gretchen thinks you two are really special. The rolling around and acting cute is such a great sign as you well know. When they start doing that here, I know we are making progress. She is a typical southern gal, loving that fried chicken. Love the pictures.
Have a great week end.
That is wonderful that Gretchen is learning to trust you and to play!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!
Gretchen, you are such a brave little girl, learning to trust us big galumphing Humans. Well Done!
What about a feather toy or some ribbon on a "fishing pole" (stick with string) to cast out and draw Gretchen in closer? We do that with Scouty and he'll come right up, as long as there's NO TOUCHING involved. You could gently toss a few kibbles as reward.
Sweet Gretchen, it is truly heartwarming to see her slowly come to trust you!
Best of luck with the TNR this weekend.
WE do believe that Gretchen will be one who moves from feral to tame and that is a testimony to your fortitude in working so diligently with her. We are so happy to see the progress she is making every week.

Gretchen is really a gorgeous kitty! It sounds like you are making good progress with her. Good luck on your TNR weekend - I hope lots of kitties benefit from your efforts!
That is wonderful she is coming so close and letting her guard down to enjoy some playtime!
Our feral Zolie will come right to the door to let us know she wants her food but will run several feet away when we come out, then go to the bowl when I put it down and move away. If I'm sitting out reading she will come and lay nearby. She lives in our garage.
It is so awesome that Gretchen is starting to trust. She sure is a beautiful girl.
You guys are amazing! Good luck with your trappin tonight.
This is good news about Gretchen!! We think she is really coming around!!
Good luck this weekend with the TNR'ing!
Gretchen is adorable! Kevin and I are hoping that, one day, she'll turn the corner and allow you to pick her up. You never know! Kev and I have some pretty amazing stories about feral cats turning around.
We want to thank you for offering your condolences as the loss of Minnie and Kiki. It means so much to have a community of those who share in these feelings of compassion towards animals.
Gretechen, you have amazing laser beams! Just the thought of you acting silly and playing makes us purrrrr.....so hope your mom passees this message along to you. Someday we hope you feel comfortable enough to put your paws on the blog. Please let your mom pick you up if only for a minute so you can come in when it's stormy outside.
WE think Gretchen is starting to realize how good she has it coming to your house for food and even catsip! Chester loves catsip!

We are thrilled with Gretchen's progress! She's got great lasers!
so glad that Gretchen is coming along....once you get that first touch in, i think she will be putty in your hands :). It's just great to see her happy and enjoying her new life!
So glad to see that she's learning to trust you! It took my tortie, Little Girl, over a year before she would stay on the porch when I went outside.....two months later she trusted me enough to give me her 2 wk. old kitten! It took her forever to discover that being petted was a GOOD thing. I still can't pick her up though and she's been here over ten years.
