TGIF

This cutie was spayed and vaccinated at the clinic in March.

Hi everyone! We apologize for not visiting much lately. I've been busy with the cat project, preparing for upcoming clinics. This weekend, the NC State Vet School mobile unit is rolling into town to sterilize and vaccinate around 50 cats. So, Friday and Saturday night, I will be trapping and working the clinic on Saturday. Wish us lots of luck!

Yesterday, Rambler had his yearly exam. He was having a time yowling and digging around in the carrier to the point of bloody nails! About 2 miles from home, he unzipped the carrier and was running around inside the car. I had to pull over in the nearest parking lot and get him back in, turn around and go back home for a wire tie to keep the carrier closed. I was a little frazzled!

He didn't have to get any stabs because his vet recommends doing his vaccinations every 3 years. She likes to be conservative when it comes to FIV kitties. He had some tartar buildup, so the vet popped it off with a tool, free of charge. The tartar was starting to cut into his gum and we want to avoid infections at all costs! She sent him home with an antibiotic. He has gone from 14.9lbs to 12.8lbs in one year. We have been cutting back on the food, but we want to be careful the weight loss is from the diet and not from the FIV. We will be doing routine weigh-ins to keep check on it. He acts and looks super healthy!

Next week is a big week... it's Maizy, Ferris and Maggie May's birthdays!
Today we would like to send big Happy Birthday purrs to our friend, Marg!

Hi

Good luck with the mobile unit clinic! You're all doing a grand job by these cats!

And glad to hear Rambler is getting healthier! What a palaver to get him to the vets though!! I can only imagine the horror of having an excitable cat running round as you try to drive!

But well done with Rambler! Yay!

Will pop over to Marg's now with best wishes!

Take care
x

That is so great that the vet clinic is coming to town to do the spaying and neutering. Hope you can catch a lot of those kitties so they can stop having kittens.
That did sound like a scary trip to the vet. That bad boy. But glad he is OK.
Thanks for the shout out about the birthday. Have a great day.

Rambler, you're quite an escape artist. I hate the carrier too but I haven't figured out how to get out of it yet...you have given me hope!
your pal,
Bruce:)

Best of luck with the clinic! This is fabulous to do--and sorely needed everywhere, IMO.

We're glad Rambler's check up was a good one. Yes, it's my understanding that the protocol now for vaccinations is NO MORE than every three years. Vets in Canada are slow to come on board with this because of course vaccs are such easy money for them.

Again, good luck with the clinic!

Good luck with the mobile vet clinic! We hope you get lots and lots of kitties 'fixed' up!

We're happy to hear that Rambler is doing great! Keep up the good work, buddy!

Our vet doesn't believe in too many vaccinations either. We like that...a lot.

Hey there!
I have been terrible about visiting blogs lately. I am so glad to stop by and read what you are up to. Good luck with your trapping this weekend!! I love that the vet school is doing that.
Hugs and purrs to Rambler (LOVE that name!!). He is lucky to have a patient and diligent mama to care for him.
Have a great weekend!!

Good luck with the clinic this weekend! We hope it goes well!

And we are glad that Rambler is doing ok, other than the whole carrier incident. Boy, he really didn't want to be in there, did he. We hope that he keeps doing well - we hope that the weight loss is from the cutting back on the food. It does make sense it would be!

And wow, three birthdays - crazy!

Maybe you should change Rambler's name to Houdini? We are sure you were very frazzled by the time you got to the Vet. Good luck this weekend, we hope many cats are caught, fixed and released!

Good luck with your TNR'ing this weekend!! And we're glad things went well for Rambler at the vet, but running free in the car would have frazzled our mom too!

Good luck with the FIV. My beloved Snowflake had FIV and he just got so sick so fast... but there's a lot of bean-to-bean pain there I don't want to go into right now. I'm so glad to see someone taking such good care of a special cat!

Good luck with the clinic. Hope more kitties will be fixed. Thank you so much for what you do for the kitties!

We are very happy to hear that Rambler is doing well :).

we just got a card from the vet saying our cats' shots are due. I don't like giving my kitties too many shots because they are indoor cats and have no contact to other animals. We are not sure what we should do. Do they need rabies shots every year?

Oh jeez, that sounded like one crazy trip! Poor Rambler must have been scared silly not to mention scaring you while driving!!!
Dana, is it possible to put Maggie May's image that is below your owl picture on a light color shopping bag like they sell in Micheal's stores? I love that artsy picture, if you can, please let me know what it would cost and I will add to it to donate to your trapping cause(ps, I'll do that anyway) Thanks, =^Y^=Holly
