Thar's a house, not too far from me creek house, called the Hammock House and it was built waaay back in 1709. In fact, it's the oldest house in me town.
What's so special about this house you might ask? Well, me gonna tell ya......it's said to be haunted! What does this have to do with pirates? One word......Blackbeard! The scallywag!
That's right, Blackbeard the Pirate once took up residence in this house after he ran his ship, the "Queen Anne's Revenge," aground in Beaufort Inlet in 1718.There are several legends floating around our town about what actually happened in that house. One story is that Blackbeard arrived to the house with his 18 year old saucy wench and she was not a willing occupant. It's said that Blackbeard got so mad at the lass, he hung her from an oak tree in the backyard before he weighed anchor back into the briny deep. Some say, you can still hear her screams some nights. Shiver me timbers!

That's quite a "tail" Cap'n Saylor Bonny! The house even looks scary and it probably wasn't a good idea for our mommy to read about a haunted house before going to bed tonight!

Just saw your comment on Mouschois about the raffles being illegal. They are not illegal but each state wants you to get a license and to be a charity to do so. Used to be anyone could do a raffle but then states were finding out that folks were offering say - a car - and selling thousands of dollars in tickets and then, come to find out, there was no car! So, now you have to have a license and also prove that you have the object of the raffle (prizes) and that the raffle is for a good cause.
Me-AAARRRRRRRRRR!!!
That be a fine tail! Me timbers be right shivered! Will ye be tellin' it again 'round the firem this eve, while hoist our grog?
