A Pirate Looks At 40

Arr, mateys! I am Cap'n Saylor Bonny and I have a "tail" for you, me hearties. Ready? Here goes.......Thar's a house, not too far from me creek house, called the Hammock House and it was built waaay back in 1709. In fact, it's the oldest house in me town. What's so special about this house you might ask? Well, me gonna tell ya......it's said to be haunted! What does this have to do with pirates? One word......Blackbeard! The scallywag! That's right, Blackbeard the Pirate once took up residence in this house after he ran his ship, the "Queen Anne's Revenge," aground in Beaufort Inlet in 1718.

There are several legends floating around our town about what actually happened in that house. One story is that Blackbeard arrived to the house with his 18 year old saucy wench and she was not a willing occupant. It's said that Blackbeard got so mad at the lass, he hung her from an oak tree in the backyard before he weighed anchor back into the briny deep. Some say, you can still hear her screams some nights. Shiver me timbers!
