**Update on Cal**
First we would like to think all of our friends in the blogosphere for their purrs and purrayers for Cal. It means so much to us!

Cal is so glad to be back home from the vet visit. The vet performed a blood chemistry panel, which checked his glucose, liver function, kidney function, etc. It all came back normal! Yay! The vet said it was probably a sensitivity to his new food. The food upset his tummy and caused him to vomit so much that he began to vomit up a little blood. This is probably from irritation in the lining of the stomach or esophagus. Cal is down to 9 lbs, he was 14 lbs this time last year, so that worries me. He was his usual bad boy self at the vet, which makes it hard for him to be throughly examined. He was given an injection of Metoclopramide (Reglan) for nausea and vomiting. He vomited again when we got home, but hopefully the injection will start working soon and he can eat again.
I know some of you are lucky to live in areas where you have access to holistic veterinarians, in these parts we don't have any nearby. I would much rather use something natural to help cure Cal of his tummy upset. Does anyone out there have any advice for some good remedies for cats with sensitive stomachs who vomit frequently??
Thanks again for all the purrs and purrayers!

I'm glad that the tests came back negative! Hopefully he will feel well soon.
So it wasn't the birthday cake, was it? : )
Purrs to Cal,

Mom here:
I've heard probiotics are good for nausea sometimes. I don't know specific names though, but you could ask your vet.
Also, the Reglan should start working within 30 minutes. If he vomited after that, it probably won't work any better than that. (We used Reglan extensively with Texas' chemo nausea). Other nausea drug include Cerenia and Zofran, but both are kinda expensive and probably will need to be given in shot form. Finally, you might be able to try a 1/4 tablet of pepcid twice a day, make sure to get the AC form and not one of the other forms!! All four of these medicines were Texas-tested and approved for dealing with chemo nausea. The only thing we didn't do directly was probiotics, but lots of people on the feline lymphoma forums had success with them.
I'm sorry to read that Cal is unwell. That's a lot of weight for him to lose.
There's a very good antacid called Antepsin for animals, that my sister Angel has when she's holding a vomit-fest. She gets 1ml about 30 minutes before food. She has reflux so the Antepsin settles this down in a simple way.
Rumbly purrs to Cal!
We're glad his bloodwork was good. We hope you find what can help them. Jan would rather use something natural too.
Oh no. I'm sorry Cal is sick. I hope the reglan will help him to quit vomiting soon. That is a lot of weight to lose in one year. Sorry, I have no idea on holistic remedies. We're purring for Cal to have a speedy recovery from this!
More purrs for Cal. Glad that everything checked out normal. Niko and Cloud's mombean are right. Probiotic, (acidophilus) is an excellent remedy in helping calm a sensitive stomach. If you are interested, you can try this site:-

Well, I am glad to learn that Cal's blood work came back normal. That's great news! I hope Cal can gain some weight back. Our holistic vet put us on grain-free food. We eat Innova EVO canned food now. It is very yummy. I would be cautious about making too many changes to Cal's foods until his tummy settles down.
Cal we hopes yoo get better soon, its no fun bein sick. Yakin is
fer hairballs only.
Poor guy, I hope his tummy settles soon!
We are glad that Cal is going to be ok. Nemo has to go to the vet tomorrow to have his eye looked at. Luckily he is pretty easy to deal with at the vet and can walk right in on his harness.

Glad the labs were good. I hope the Reglan will settle his tummy soon so he can try some different food! *purrs*
So glad to hear the labs turned out good! That's so scary. We had to try a number of different foods before we could find one that agrees with most of the family and we are now eating California Naturals. As for holistic vets, I think there are some that you can get to consult with your treating vet if your vet is willing to do that. I'm wondering with a bit of googling you could find someone.
Hang in there Cal. We're sending you tons of purrs.

We didn't even know there was such a thing as a holistic vet! But we are very glad Cal's labs came back good! Yay!
When my cats vomit I use homeopathic remedies. For mucus and blood Ipecacuanha 6c or 12c three - four times the first day and see how it works. I have other remedies like Nux Vomica 6c or 12c.
I find mine do this when they have furballs that can't come up or out. If that is the case Nux is the better choice.
My NC vet is a holistic vet and does phone consults. Her web site is www.animalsnaturally.org. She may have more suggestions.
These remedies can be found at health food stores. I dissolve the pellets in water and give them to the cats in a plastic syringe or in some milk. Good luck. Hope Cal feels better.
