Hurricane Irene Video

Our power was restored Sunday night around 11:00pm after being off since late Friday night.

We were so lucky! Here's a quick video I put together of the hurricane. Of course, it doesn't show the massive wind we were experiencing around 3:00am Saturday morning. It was too dark to film and I was pretty much cowering in the hallway feeling the house rock and listening to the ceiling make creaking noises. Seriously thought we were going to lose it. The kitties were taking shelter under the stairwell where it was safest.

Landfall occured at Cape Lookout which is literally a 10 minute boat ride from our home. Highest gusts were clocked there at 115mph. Storm surge was worse further east where most of my family lives. Most everyone who flooded during Hurricane Isabel, flooded with Irene. Irene hung around here for nearly 24 hours and we were so happy to see her go, but prayed for those still in her path. My family down east way still don't have power. It could be Thursday or Friday before they get it back on. Thanks again for all the prayers and concern!

Fabulous pictures! We were lucky to only get 7+ inches of rain over 24 hours, so we dint get flooded. But TBT says it looks like you got what HE got in the 90s once (Hurricane Floyd?) where all the street and yard was just flooded for a whole day. And THAT was jusr rainfall from the higher neighborhood.

Flooding from below seems a lot worse cuz the water doesn't have annywhere ta go!

Wow, this is a very impressive video. We followed about Irene in TV.
Here in Germany we don´t have Hurricanes. Sometimes we have storms called Orkan. Not like a hurricane but scary enough...

Glad to read that you are all safe.

For not getting the absolute worst of it, you guys still had it pretty bad with Irene! I am glad to hear you are all safe, and that the electricity didn't stay out for too long.

Wow! VERY scary! We occasionally have torrential rain and flooding, but nothing quite like that. We're so glad you're all safe, uninjured. Good night, Irene, indeed.

Purrs to all!

We are so glad you are all safe. It would have been scary to go through that and the high winds you described.

OH we are so glad to see you are all OK. We know how scary these storms are, and you were so close. We watched this on TV and we noticed it sat stalled over NC. We were amazed at how quickly it went on , but it seemed to stay so long over NC. Thank you for posting the video, it was good you got your power back so quickly.

Holy crap! You were all so brave to have stayed and stuck it out! Our mom was glued to the tv the hole weekend. Being a natural disaster survivor, she really takes all weather disasters to heart. So, so glad you are all okay!

Oh my goodness!! So glad you are safe. My daughter lives in N.Y. so I was really worried about her during that storm.
It was nothing like that up there.
Good video.
