Shapes Of Things

Maya and Chevelle went for their annual exams and vaccinations yesterday. They have both lost a few ounces, which is good! Chevelle weighed 12.9lbs and Maya weighed 10.8lbs. So the cutting back on the food is working, yay! Chevelle checked out purrfectly, teeth, eyes, ears, heart and lungs all good!
Maya on the other hand..... Maya just had his dental cleaning in March and already he has some tartar build up and what looks to be the start of a cavity! The vet said the pH level in his mouth is not good. We brush teeth pretty often, but he's just got bad teeth. He also has a cataract in his left eye, but the vet said it's pretty small and is probably not effecting his vision. Wednesday night I discovered blood in his stool and as you can imagine I was pretty freaked out, given what we went through with Cal earlier this year. The vet said to keep an eye on it for now and if it starts happening frequently or he starts vomiting and acting differently, we will proceed with further testing.

We wish everyone a very happy weekend! We'll be trapping for a big spay/neuter clinic on Sunday. Hoping the weather cooperates and so glad to see Hurricane Bill is staying away!

I'm glad your weights are good! But I'm sorry Maya is having some trouble with his teeths. I do not like teeths; they always cause troubles!

Oh poor Maya, I hope the blood turns out to be nothing and goes away quickly! And the tooth thing is too bad - our kitty Kirzon has the same problem with the tartar build up - he is just prone to it. That is good that Chevelle has a good weight though. At least that was some good news.

We hope things go well this weekend with the trapping - we will keep our fingers and paws crossed for good weather!

We, unfortunately, seem to be heading for a direct hit from hurricane Bill (sigh). We will remind our beans to stock up on water and extra (cat) food.

You cats have been very busy! Yay about the ounces lost and we just love that photo of that orange kitty sniffing the outdoorsy airs (what' that kitties name?). Our mewmie works at a cat vet and knows all about those bad toofers in kitties, lots of FORL's (cavities) in most of them--genetic, pH in the mouth, even respiratory viruses may be involved...but you got good people caring for you and that's good, even though the dentist isn't fun!

Sorry to hear Maya's check up didn't go as well as Chevelle's. I hope he won't need another tooth pulled, and especially hope the blood was a 1 time thing. ((for you)) it's understandable you'd be very upset.

I am really glad that Chevelle had a perfect vet visit. I hope that Maya's teeth are OK and that the blood in the stool turns out to be nothing to worry about.

o0o0o0o0o you should get some Greenie treats and throw those in with breakfast! also, you can ask your vet about HILLS diet T/D for cats! If they write you a RX (prescription) you can get it at your local petsmart (it might be cheaper) and use the bites as TREATS only- not a main meal- very high in calories you'll gain the ounces back! It's special for the teeth- scrapes the tartar off! Benneh gets the stuff for dogs--- it's doing wonders!

I hope your spay/neuter trapping went well. I have been fortunate to spay/neuter 34 over the last two years.

Check out my blog about a colony of abandoned/feral cats near my home. There will be stories there as time goes on that could inspire and inform anyone you know who wants to help homeless cats.

Would you add me to your blog list?

Thank you,
