Giardia
Yep, the kittens have Giardiasis, which is an intestinal infection caused by a protozoan parasite called Giardia intestinalis. Seems to be quite common in the shelter kittens we've pulled lately. So the kittens will be on a course of metronidazole and will not be able to travel on the transport this weekend as planned. Their health is more important, so they will be staying a while longer to recover.

Oh y'all are just too cute to be sick...so get well soon sweet ones!
Good that you caught it right away. Hope they feel better soon.
Yuck--hate treating giardia... Oh well..
Giardia can be stubborn too and come back - ugh what a nuisance :-( But the kittens are still adorable!!!
Poor little guys. I'm so sorry to hear they are ill. That is a yucky thing to have and I know they surely feel awful. I hope they feel better soon and thank God they are surviving it. Some don't. My best to you and the cats. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x5
Get well soon, cuties! You're in good hands!
Well, now you know--it's good to have a diagnosis. As Cat said, Giardia can be tough to control. It's kind of like Herpes in that it can lay dormant and reoccur during periods of stress.
I brought in a cat with it about 6 years ago and after many rounds of deworming everyone in the house, my vet finally contacted a parasitology expert and this is how we eradicated it.
Metronidazole and Fenbendazole at the same time. Metro twice daily/Fenbendazole once daily, for 5 days in a row, with daily litterbox changes and daily rump baths for 5 days.
We did this twice a month for 6 weeks, then once a month for 6 weeks, then 4 x a year...and it hasn't reappeared again!
Of course, you won't have these kittens for that long, but as I had a cattery, but fostering is very similar in many ways, and didn't want it to come back with every pregnancy and litter, I followed this vets recommendations to the letter and it worked. I also treated everyone in the house, not just the ones with symptoms.

Sure never heard of that one. Hope those little cute kitties get all better soon.Take care.
Riley had that when I got him. He was isolated from the other rescue kittens but I took him home with me anyway.
(he had been found in a box with his siblings at a school playyard. he also ate the dogs food when he first came here. thus, i think he lived outside.)
Boo for Giardia ... we've had kittens with that, too. Hope the treatment progresses well.
Oh goodness! What a mess...I hope the treatment works for those cuties!
