Isn't it great? I do believe green is my color!
I have been unable to wear my sweater the last few days because my IBD is acting up again and I don't want to get it dirty. I am having litter box issues that are using all the lady's paper towels (good thing she buys in bulk) and I also vomited this morning (on the rug, of course.) I am still on prednisilone and this afternoon I will start back on the metrondiazole. Please purray that this is just an IBD flare up and not something worse.
The lady needs advice on what to feed me. She has read that a raw diet is the way to go for cats with IBD. However, being a vegetarian, it kinda grosses her out, but she is willing to do whatever it takes to get me eating and healthier. Even if that means using a meat grinder. At the moment I will only eat a little bit of dry kitten food. She has done lots of research (which is making her loopy) and found that dry is not good for IBD. I will not eat the canned RX diet recommended by our vet. Just. don't. like. it! Does anyone out there eat raw, either homemade or store bought? We don't have any stores near her that sell raw, so it would have to be shipped and the shipping is very expensive.

Cal you look swell in your new jacket it really suits your eyes!
Our Mum says a raw diet for a cat with IBD is seriously risky due to the likely parasite load in the raw meat (Salmonella, worms of all kinds) Parasites in an already weakened system are going to cause big problems so it isn't worth the risk. It's also difficult to assess the quality of preprepared raw foods. Feeding raw human grade meat would likely result in you not gettng the full range of essential nutrients you need, flesh only diets are not enough for cats. Try a restricted protein diet like Royal Canin Sensitivity Control, two flavours in wet food and one in dry biscuits. This has worked well for Angel our 18.5 yr old cat. It took over a year to stabilise her. The gut is a slow organ to sort out, it can take months to adapt to new food. So swapping foods around can exacerbate the problem. We know that day old chicks (chicken and turkey) are sold for pets to eat, but will all have salmonella in their gut, which for a poorly cat would be too much for them to cope with.
We aren't against raw diets, but we know it's very hit and miss and wouldn't risk it for a poorly cat.
Best of luck Cal, we hope this is only a flare up and you soon feel better sweetheart.

Cal, You look wonderful in green! We would have guessed you to be more of a Red boy.
We haven't tried this yet, but Ma got us this stuff from The Honest Kitchen.
http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/prowl.shtml
There's another site that gave us a discount code for 15% off too. Just type 15offRCA5 when you check out. I guess you can add stuff to it, but with what Whicky said up there ^ you might wanna try it by itself.
Hope this helps!
Hi Dana, just got your comment, glad it was helpful. We've heard good things about EVO but we dont' have it in the UK (damn) The RC one we use is:
Royal Canin Sensitivity Control S/O
(Chicken & Rice)&(Duck) flavours. No peas in the one we use (yuk @ peas) - Both are wet food in pouches and both smell very good. The dry version is by the same name and is chicken flavour. This link is to where we buy them in the UK and contains a bit of info about the food too:-

We tried the high fibre Hills stuff (amongst loads of other foods) Angel hated it and it made her symptoms worse (high fibre often does the same in human IBD too apparently)
Here's to Cal doing well on that EVO!
Best of luck!
Oh no. I'm sorry the IBD is bothering you again :( I don't know anything about diets for IBD or raw diets. Sorry. I hope your Lady can find something that is good for your tummy that you'll eat.
BTW, you look great in your green whale sweater, Cal!
Cal, you look very extra-handsome in your green whale sweater. Green is your color!
I'm sorry your IBD is acting up. I think I have already mentioned that we are eating EVO canned foods. Since Harley keeps having a flare-up of his eosinophilc granuloma complex, the vet thinks it could be a food allergy. So, Harley is now eating EVO canned Venison. He did not enjoy the duck flavor, but eats the venison okay. Our vet sells healthy foods so we are getting it from there, but if you want, I can send you a link to a site we found that has the least expensive shipping we have found. It was around $3 per case. But I am not sure where you live.
Hi Cal, you sweater is really cool...we gotta get one of those (Ernie sez he'll never wear one though!).
We don't know alot about IBD, but we know that there is a yahoo group that has lots of beans dealing with cats with that problem. Maybe your mom could join and find out what the beans are feeding their cats.

We hope your medicines work and you feel better soon.
Hay guyz! I knowz everybody summed it up already, you can;t feed a kitteh raw food alone, there is just not enough of all the things we needz.
Momma bought a little package that you miz with teh raw food once, it is kinda like making yoghurt you have to let it cure etc.. but we hated it.
I do not know a whole lot about technical stuffs,. but It sounds like you has a sensitive tummy like my sisfur.. she has never been able to eat proper food and even sometimes on her special biscuits she still vomits etc.
She gets Royal Canin for sensitive tummies and we find it to be the best.
She doe snot take any meds etc, still has bad poopies sometimes or the occasional vomits.. we calls her a sausage factory cause they go in in bits and come out a long sausage.
If or when you do feed us babies raw foods even for a treat they should be frozed fro at least 2 months first to get rid of a ll the bad stuffs.
But we in summary we find Royal Canin wonderful and and it helps my sisfur and keeps her away from all the nasty medicatshuns :)

Hi Cal...this is what my mom knows based on a combination of what has worked for Jonesie and Ginger and what she went through when she freaked out over the cat food scare awhile back.
We are now eating Natural Balance Duck and Green Pea (all us except for Madison and Cecilia). Madison and Cecilia are experimenting with the Merrick no grain formula which is new. Both seem to be ok and have canned versions.
When the big food scare happened my mom tried to cook our food. She was squeamish about the raw too, but found good recipes in the book "Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats". It got to be too much work for her (too bad for us), but she would cook up a crock pot full of kitty and doggy awesomeness and since it was cooked she didn't feel so funny about it. If she didn't have to work so much, she would still do it. Not all of us liked it...if you can imagine that, but I LOVED it! All I know is that you have to figure out what works for you, but since we kitties are carnivores if my mom had to cook again, she'd leave out any grains.
We are thinking of you and hope you get better soon. You look so handsome in your new sweater...any color would look good with your fur.
Hi Cal, Catster has a Vet you can talk to for advice it is a fantastic site! The Magazine, Cats USA has lots of great articals and one is about feeding dry or wet. Mommy knew the dry had more salt but didn't know about the high carbohydrate count. We are only suppose to get 1 to 3 percent in our diets but dry foods have 30 percent or higher!!! We eat Merrick Thanksgiving dinner and Mommy orders it from petfooddirect.com and always waits for the 20 or 22% off discounts. She also picks it up since Harleysville is not far from us. We only get a small portion of dry food for rewards and it can't have glutins in it due to the food scare. We are glad you are feeling better=^Y^=the Cat Street Boyz
Oh yes, green is purrrfect for your colouring :)
You look really good in green, Cal. I can't help any with the IBD problem, but I hope that you find a food you can eat and that you like very soon.
yoo luk grate in yur sweater. we're sorry yur ibd is acting up still. one of owr beans has ibs but hers is controlled by learning trigger fud and learning whut yoo can and cant handle. wiff kittys we hafe no experience. we hope yoo find a gud fud fur yoo soon.
Cal you look great in your sweater!
I feed my IBS cat Minnie -- Pet Guard, Wellness and Innova or Evo (same company). Like I said in another post, I give her digestive enzymes, probiotics and slippery elm inher food daily and if she needs it for constipation human Floralax. I sprinkle just a little in ehr wet food. She does nibble on dry but eats mostly canned food.
Raw food may be risky with IBS and Minnie won't eat anyway.
Good luck with Cal!
